Analog crossovers are by no means "out" or outdated. They still have their place and are used successfully in many audio applications. Their use is particularly popular in high-end high or fidelity systems and audio products where sonic purity and simplicity are valued.
Analog (passive) crossovers also have the advantage of reliability and uncomplicated operation. They do not require their own power supply, have fewer electronic components and are therefore less prone to technical failures.
