Orthogonal Intertechnik air coils

In crossovers, it is crucial that coils are arranged in such a way that they do not interfere with each other. If coils are placed too close to each other, unwanted magnetic coupling can occur, which impairs the signal quality and leads to distortion in the audio signal. The magnetic field generated by a coil also reaches neighboring inductors, in which it induces alternating voltages. The mutual influence of the coils on a crossover is by no means irrelevant.

During music reproduction, each coil of the crossover transmits signals to other coils in its vicinity, which affects the sound of loudspeakers. To prevent this, coils are arranged orthogonally (i.e. at a 90-degree angle) to each other. In this arrangement, the magnetic fields of the coils are perpendicular to each other, which minimizes mutual induction and ensures that they do not influence each other. Bernd Stark has already carried out an extensive analysis and confirmed how the magnetic fields work and how strong the mutual influence of inductors is. The orthogonal arrangement contributes significantly to better audio quality and crossover efficiency. Our specially developed coilformers were designed precisely for this purpose. They allow precise and easy mounting of the coils in orthogonal alignment, ensuring optimum performance and protection against interference. Thanks to these Intertechnik coils, there is an easy-to-install solution that significantly improves sound fidelity.
